NEW YEAR'S EIGHT HOURS EARLY!!!

Happy New Year!

We were fortunate enough to have a friend, Tom aka Eagle, working a show in Hoxton (about 25 minutes east of us via bus... finally, a chance to see what bus transport is like in London!) So he got us on the list, which allowed us to avoid the £25 cover charge. The venue was fantastic, though Eagle did mention that they had put some extra decor up for the New Year's celebration.

Upon entering we encountered a problem that was pretty striking. How could a venue so large on such a big holiday in the middle of winter NOT HAVE A COAT CHECK??? That blew my mind. When we talked to Tom about it he mentioned that not a lot of places in London do have a coat check. Oh the money that these venues are missing out on. Ah well. He was nice enough to place our coats back behind all of the audio equipment.

The band that was playing was strictly a cover band. There's some kind of freedom and fun that cover bands experience that other bands don't. How can it go wrong, playing super famous songs all night? We were treated to covers of The Doors, Iggy Pop and the Stooges and, of course, The Clash... and all of this with a female singer. She was incredible! I cannot stress that enough. So much energy. Such a powerful voice.

Anyhow, the countdown was super fun. Everyone there was incredibly energetic and excited. I think I had more people shouting congratulations and giving me high fives than when the Giants won the World Series. Jessica and I danced our faces off, had a few drinks, and then proceeded to head back to the apartment.

I should take a moment here to mention that we got lost going to AND from the venue... It was pretty tough getting lost going back to the apartment, but we survived to tell about it. Hoxton is a lot like the Mission in San Francisco. Lots of young people... and just grimy enough to make you feel like you need a shower when you leave. It was a blast!

Sorry for the novel. I hope you all had a fantastic New Year's Eve and aren't hurting too bad today. Here are some photos!
